CFP - Special Issue Dedicated to Dr. Kircher and Dr. Gambhir

The field of Nanotheranostics, the namesake of this journal, lost two foundational pillars this past year. It is difficult to accept that Dr. Sam Gambhir and Dr. Moritz Kircher both have passed away, in both cases much too soon. Two individuals who dedicated their careers to, what at the time they started, was radical new research fusing molecular imaging, therapy and nanoscale design. Both were founding editorial board members of Nanotheranostics. Dr. Kircher was the editor-in-chief of Nanotheranostics at the time of his passing.

Considering their integral involvement with the founding of both the Nanotheranostics field and journal, we thought it would be appropriate to have a special journal issue dedicated in their memory. Research and review articles will be handled according to normal peer review process, with emphasis on:

  • Biosensing, imaging, detection, and diagnostics
  • Application of nanoscale materials for disease therapy or prophylaxis
  • Molecular imaging in vivo or ex vivo
  • Theranostic methods and materials

For more information on the journal and its style, please refer to “Instructions for Authors” at All the invited and contributed manuscripts will be pre-screened by the guest editors followed by the standard peer-review procedure (typically two to four experts in the field). The deadline for proposal is set for December 15, 2020, and the full manuscript submission DEADLINE is set for May 15, 2022. The first decision will be made within weeks from submission after peer-review process.

Manuscripts for this special issue should be submitted online at   (mark “Special Issue for Dr. Kircher and Dr. Gambhir” in the “Suggested reviewers” field to identify the manuscript).
